Rufous Hummingbird

I have my first Rufous Hummingbird for this season as of the 18th of July. The hummingbirds are crazy right now. I have Rufous, Black-chinned and Broad-tailed, and am still waiting for the Calliopes and Anna's that usually show up this time of year. When I get a minute I'll take come pictures and post them.

Me too, Akitaslvr . My first Rufous yard sighting, a brilliant male, came only the day before here on West Birch Ave (Flagstaff Townsite). He was quickly chased off by one of my two resident Broad-tailed Hummers. Definitely no crowds by any records.

The hummers are crazy here! I was off today and got a few pictures. I have one that is tailess and I think is a young Black-chinned. Hopefully someone can help me out with him. The first three pictures are of him. Enjoy! - Pam

Although a bit blue on my monitor, I think the colored feathers coming in on the throat of the tail-less one do indicate Black-chinned.

The coloring also looked very blue in my pictures, but I figured it was probably a black-chinned.

at last a hummingbird

Since Mon 7/26 a Broad-tailed & a Rufous Hummingbird have been at my feeder a few times a day. After 2 months without hummers this sounds like success!

Gobs of hummers are around Elden Spring right now - juvenile rufous have arrived in force in the last few days.

I have been out of town for the last week and a half.

Upon my return yesterday, I am pleased to report that my yard is being invaded by Rufous & Broadtailed Hummingbirds...it's about time!
