How do I go about posting a pic? (FYI)

If I click on the button that has an arrow with a picture of a mountain on it, it asks me for a url. Can I post a pic on this forum without already having it on the web?

The Image button (with the mountain on it) is for inserting pictures that are hosted on other websites or photo-sharing sites (Photobucket, Smugmug, etc.)

Alternatively (and most commonly), images may be uploaded to the database as attachments. The Attachment box is located at the bottom of the Reply screen.

Here is a screen shot of the Post Reply template. Note: the Attachment feature does not appear in the Quick Reply template, you must click the Post Reply button below the post you want to reply to.

Note also that maximum image size is 1MB, but since an image size of 640x480 seems to work best to keep the image formatted to the forum screen, a file that large is usually overkill.

I highly recommend Irfanview as an image editor - its intuitive, fast, small and free. This program makes cropping and re-sizing of images about two-click simple. Keep your bird in the center frame for easy viewing.

The forum now automatically generates thumbnails of attached images. This speeds things up for those surfers out there still suffering through dialup connections.

This also means you can now show off your larger images without imposing high demands on slow connections. New image maximum is 1000 x 1000 pixels and 1 megabyte.

Gif and Jpegs are the best format for image files.
